How to play Fill in the Pun
Each round presents an illustrated scene and a familiar phrase with one important word missing. Study the picture, read the whole sentence, and choose the word that makes both the meaning and the wordplay click.
Read before you choose
Start with the complete sentence instead of jumping straight to the answer tiles. The words around the blank usually reveal the grammar you need: an object, an action, or a describing word. Then use the illustration to decide which possible meaning the scene is acting out.
Look for the double meaning
A good visual pun works in two directions. The completed phrase should sound natural, but the picture should also turn one word into something literal or unexpected. If an answer only fits the picture and makes the sentence awkward, keep looking.
Try this strategy
Say each completed phrase quietly to yourself. Familiar expressions often become obvious when heard as a full line. When two choices seem possible, favor the one that explains the most unusual detail in the illustration.
